J125-KI Rips Moleskin Cotton Flight Jacket Black

Lookbook

Description

As I pull on the J125, the first thing I notice is the stance of the jacket. It feels concise, sharp, and yet at the same time unrestrictive. The fabric is pleasant; its’ smell and touch tell me it is a natural fibre, its’ grit and weight tell me it is resilient and precisely made. I can move my arms freely. Nothing disturbs me. The collar sits reassuringly against the back of my neck, and when I flip it up, I am surprised by its’ height, and how protected I feel. The interior collar material is not the same as the jacket. It is softer than the jacket body and comfortable against my skin. I notice the front zipper continues into the collar and am pleased to see that pulling on it zips it shut completely, forming a reassuring barrier to the elements. I pull down on the webbing and unzip the jacket smoothly from collar to hem. It is effortless, and as I flip the collar back down, I wonder if the breakaway EscapeZipǽ is even necessary, but, then again, I think, ‘Why not?’ I unzip the hand pockets, marvelling at the self opening mechanism of the teardrop shaped tension zippers. I thrust my hands inside and I am not disappointed. The pocket bags are deep and extend both forward and backwards from their entry. ‘I can easily fit my gloves and my hat in here’, I think. ‘Maybe even my small cat, if I had to, but not the bigger one.’ I adjust the sleeves. I like the half zipped position, the cuffs floating loosely over the top of my hands. This allows me quick access to the Gravity Pocketsǽ, and test it just to be sure. Index finger and thumb on the tab, hold and pull as my arm extends. The satisfying pop of the plastic polymer ring as it disengages. Drop my arm, and my phone slides smoothly into my grip. I unzip the pocket and return the phone to its starting place. ‘Old school Gravity Pocketǽ’, I think. ‘But I’m old school, in some ways, as well.’ I smile. The ultralight titanium and carbon fibre Warren Thomas goes in the other sleeve. I cross to the window and look down at the city. Gray, and, as expected, only sparsely populated. The clashes a few kilometres away still drawing most of the action. I snap the front of the jacket closed using the one handed thumb under-loop. In the distance someone’s scarf snaps open in a gust of wind. I decide to close the jacket fully after all. ‘Green to open and black to tighten’, I remind myself and pull on both shock cords at once. The jacket closes around my waist. I adjust the cinch in the mirror and notice that the jacket’s articulated hem is also a different material, the same as the one in the collar. ‘The calm is in the details’, I tell myself again. I breath in for four counts. Exhale for eight. Exit the apartment, walk past the elevators, skirt the security camera, and open the door to the stairwell. [ Shown in size: M.
