Buzz Rickson's

Buzz Rickson's Type B-9 Jacket Olive Drab

Lookbook

Description

A faithful recreation of one of the most significant outerwear designs to emerge from WWII, Buzz Rickson’s B-9 Parka revisits the pioneering collaboration between the U.S. Army Air Forces and outdoor innovator Eddie Bauer. Produced in the early 1940's as part of the Air Force’s first experiments with down-insulated flight clothing, the B-9 stood at the cutting edge of technical outerwear. Eddie Bauer had already revolutionised cold-weather gear, securing the first U.S. patent for a down jacket in 1940. By 1942, the brand was manufacturing down-filled flight suits and parkas for the military. The B-9 was produced alongside the alpaca-lined B-11, but its high production cost meant contracts were short-lived, leaving original examples exceptionally scarce today. Buzz Rickson’s reproduction captures the spirit and construction of the original with uncompromising accuracy. The parka features a water-repellent cotton twill shell, down-quilted rayon satin lining, a mouton-trimmed hood and chin strap, and four wool-lined pockets for warmth and utility. A subtle elasticated back belt creates a closer, more insulating fit. Every component has been reproduced to period specification, from the Conmar zipper to the 100% wool knit cuffs and bakelite-style buttons. A modern staple rooted in true military innovation, the B-9 remains a benchmark of heritage outerwear, brought back to life with Buzz Rickson’s exacting craftsmanship. - 100% Cotton shell, 100% Cupro Satin lining, 90% Down/ 10% Feather Lining - Repro of original Eddie Bauer B-9 Design - Water repellent cotton twill shell - Quilted rayon lining - Two hand warmer pockets - Two lower flap pockets - Elastic waistband - Zip closure with storm flap - Knitted ribbed cuffs - Drawstring hood - Made in Japan
