YAKU for Women

YAKU, the namesake label of Central Saint Martins graduate Yaku Stapleton, serves as a platform for imaginative and avant-garde design. Of Jamaican and Vincentian descent, Stapleton merges Afrofuturism, fantasy, and character design to explore identity and cultural connection. Awarded the 2023 L’Oréal Pro Prize for his visionary master’s collection, Stapleton envisioned his family clan in a parallel realm, blending sculpture and costume design techniques to create otherworldly ready-to-wear. Infused with themes from role-playing games and unfamiliar wildlife, YAKU offers a grounded alternative to reality, pushing the boundaries of contemporary fashion through adventurous creativity and introspective storytelling.
