Description
Tropical Combat Jackets were originally issued for Special Forces in tropical climates & praised for their lightweight and fast-drying abilities. In Vietnam, where dense jungle warfare was common, exposed buttons often snagged on branches and gear. To address this, starting with the second model, flaps were doubled and buttons were concealed. By the third model, additional changes were made, including the removal of epaulettes, adjustment tabs, and gas flaps to further streamline the design for combat conditions. The fabric was also upgraded from cotton poplin to cotton ripstop, which was favoured in the field for its superior tear resistance. This distinctive camouflage, inspired by leaves in the jungle, was developed by the U.S. Military’s Engineer Research and Development Laboratory (ERDL)and issued in the mid-late 60's, and vintage garments featuring it are affectionately known as ERDL models. This ERDL Model from Buzz Rickson's features two slanted, gusseted chest pockets with flap closures, along with two lower flap pockets. A concealed button front and button-adjustable cuffs complete the look. - 100% cotton - Ripstop - Combat Tropical Coat / 3rd Pattern Jungle - ERDL camouflage - Two slanted gusseted chest pockets w/flap closure - Two lower flap pockets - Concealed button front - Button adjustable cuffs - Made in Japan
