The story of the Air Presto began long before its launch in 2000. Born from the innovative minds of Tobie Hatfield and Kevin Hoffer and designed by Bob Mervar, the concept was born in 1996. Back then, Hatfield noticed that by imposing a traditional pair of running shoes, the collar would collapse slightly to conform to the foot. The shoe would provide everything a runner needs, but Hatfield wondered how he could improve the design and functionality, while taking into account consumer feedback, to create a shoe that offered the comfort of a slipper. In 2016, the ACRONYM® x Nike Air Presto Mid revolutionized sneaker culture with its radical take on the classic “t-shirt for your feet” concept. Errolson Hugh of ACRONYM® Studio explained that the collaboration began by examining failed or forgotten Air Presto prototypes. After identifying a mid-top silhouette, he worked with NikeLab designers to give it an ACRNM twist with fresh colorways and a dual-zip. The mid-top silhouette features a black and fluorescent yellow neoprene construction, a side zipper, and a leather heel counter. The design is completed with a black and white abstract geometric print, a two-tone midsole, and Acronym branding on the zippers and lacing system.
