Inspired by Tinker Hatfield's original sketch of the shoe that would become the Air Max 1, the shoe's black upper is decorated throughout by white schematic drawings, with Hatfield's dated signature on the right heel. The sockliner sports 'Sample, Property of Nike, Not for Resale' to further contribute to the look, while underfoot, the Air midsole and translucent waffle outsole complete the thematic design.
