In her mythological and anthropological research, Professor Marija Gimbutas interpreted spirals, zigzags, and curving, snake-like incisions found on ancient artifacts as part of a symbolic language—one that defined women in Old Europe as creative and life-giving. The Aphea Dress features hand-sewn leather tubing in an anthropomorphic pattern to reflect the sinuous lines that echo the neolithic goddesses.
