The Lance Mountain x Air Jordan 1 Retro SB QS pays homage to the 1987 skate video, The Search for Animal Chin, which showcases Pasadena Pro Skater Lance Mountain wearing an Air Jordan 1 'Royal' sneaker on his left foot and a white/Carolina blue Air Jordan 1 on his right. Back then, the Jordan was adopted by West Coast skaters for its durable leather, high ankle coverage, and Nike Air technology. To extend the life of their Jordans, skaters wore mismatched pairs, sometimes painting them the same color to recreate a uniform look. Reviving this DIY-aesthetic, the Lance Mountain x Jordan 1 SB features a black/red and a black/royal colorway with a coat of white paint that wears away with each ollie and flip trick to create a design that's unique to the individual skater. Released in limited quantities in June 2014, the sneaker dropped in a two-pack alongside a colorway given a treatment of black paint.
