- These M-51 Trousers are based on vintage pants, replaced with the signature black color of the William Gibson Collection. Field trousers made of the backside of cotton satin were adopted by the U.S. Army in 1951. Around this time, the Army adopted the M-51 series set-up layered system as a combat uniform for cold weather. Soldiers wore an undershirt and drawers (underpants), then a wool field shirt and field trousers, and over these, a cotton field jacket and field pants. All M-51 garments are prioritized, trapping body heat and blocking outside air by being loose-fitting, designed for wear in cold climates.
