JAMES GALANOS Vintage 1980s Black Silk Crepe Cocktail Dress Size 4-6 Small This rare James Galanos cocktail dress from the early 1980s is reminiscent of Old Hollywood glamour from much earlier decades. The dress is made in a lightweight black crepe fabric with a sheer silk chiffon lining. It has a crew neck, big shoulder pads, three-quarter sleeves that close with little zippers, and a back zipper for closure. The shell fabric is swagged upward on both the top and skirt to meet densely puckered embellishments on the left shoulder and left hip. On the back of the dress, the skirt is ruched alongside the zipper up to the waist. For a garment this age, no fabric or size labels would be present. Galanos only worked with the very finest materials, so it's a safe assumption that the shell fabric is silk, although it could be a blend. The chiffon lining is definitely 100% silk. Based on the measurements we are estimating the modern size to be 4-6, or Small. To avoid returns, do not rely only on the size label or estimated size to determine fit. Always compare the actual measurements with those of a similar garment that fits you.
