Vintage Black Wool Suit with Zipper Jacket, Mini Skirt, and Buckle Accents

In 2010, the Thierry Mugler brand was changed to Mugler by the new creative director, and I think this suit must be from very early in that time period, because the design elements are essentially identical to Thierry Mugler suiting from the 1990s. The jacket has the same raglan sleeves and exaggerated shoulders with a nipped waist and peplum that are signatures of Thierry Mugler suits. It also has a full-length zipper closure in front along with two zippered breast pockets. And then of course come the belts and buckles: three on each side of the waist and two on each cuff. The skirt appears to fit a little above your natural waist (it will fit lower, and thus the skirt will be a little longer, if you waist is smaller). It has pockets on each side that protrude a little bit wider than the hips (covered by the jacket's peplum), conforming to the edgy, angular statement prevalent in Mugler's designs. The suit is labeled size 42, which based on the measurements must be Italian sizing even though the suit was made in France. The hip measurement of the skirt is constraining the size of the suit, so overall it falls in the modern US size 2-4 range, or Small. A size 6 with smaller hips could also wear it. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding actual size and compare with similar garments that fit you. JACKET MEASUREMENTS - Shoulder width is about 18" to the outer edges of the shoulder pads. - Approximate underarm chest measurement is 40" - Waist is 28" measured at the bottom belts on the loosest notch. - Waist is 30" with belts undone. - Length is 22.5" down center back excluding collar. SKIRT MEASUREMENTS - Waist is 30" - Hips are 36" at about 8" below top of skirt. - Length is 16" CONDITION Both pieces are in excellent condition without any notable flaws.
