Vintage Silk Crepe Leopard Print Mini Dress w Smocked Hips

The appealing style of this vintage 1980s dress from Valentino Garavani is enhanced even more by the use of a lively leopard print fabric. The top of this sleeveless dress has a raised neck and a long blouson torso. The opening at the back is about fourteen inches long and closes with a single button at the neck. This top is attached to a five-inch wide wide elasticized and smocked hipband that together give the appearance of a dropped waist. It is followed by the actual skirt with double rows of ruffles at the top and bottom. One of the last photos shows how the dress is constructed with the real waist of the skirt hidden inside the dress. It has an elastic waistband and its own zipper. The fabrics are not labeled, but the shell fabric is silk crepe, the torso is lined in beige silk chiffon, and the top of the skirt inside the dress is a very fine silk organza. Labeled US size 6, but measurements and sizing charts indicate this dress is a better suited for a modern US size 4. This is our estimated size, so please refer to the actual measurements for the best guidance regarding size and compare with a similar garment that fits you. MEASUREMENTS - Shoulder width is 14.5" - Underarm chest measurement is 37" - Elastic waist inside dress is 24" - Hips are 34" measured in the middle of smocked band that is stretchy. - Length is about 40" down center back excluding collar. Dress will be shorter when worn, depending on where you position the hip band. CONDITION The leopard print shell is in excellent condition with only a couple of inconsequential thread pulls at the very bottom ruffle. The channel that holds the elastic for the skirt's waistband inside the dress has three short splits on the backside of the waistband that are visible only if you stretch the elastic. The taffeta below the waistband has a couple of areas that were "starting" that we've reinforced, but overall the material is strong. Of course, this part of the dress is not visible on the exterior. RETURNS This dress is delicate, and we are likely not to approve a return for it.
