IG: Guerrero_sto Raf simons SS03 Consumed "Nails" Sleeveless Hoodie The Raf Simons’ S/S 2003 "Consumed" collection served as a commentary on the expression of individuality in a consumerist society. Though the theme of the collection is quite grim, Raf was not criticizing capitalism, but rather expressing how one may construct their identity and express oneself. In this collection, Raf grappled with ideas about self expression in a context dominated by advertising, while simultaneously expressing the possibility of a post-apocalyptic future caused by the collapse of this system. To express the post-apocalyptic message Raf used military-inspired garments, deconstructed garments and recycled materials. This latter point illustrates a reality where some resources are limited and one needs to use whatever they can find to express themselves. Recycled cans, nets, cigarette boxes and prints were used to drive this message. One of the prints that stand out is the one presented here. This Hoodie alludes to the idea of limited resources by having nails printed onto a hoodie. Despite being a simple design, the overall layout of the print is very nice. Featuring distressed details (small holes throughout and ripped arms) and an elongated cut with wide shoulders.
